We will field teams for 3 summer tournaments in the 2016-2011 age groups.
2011 Teams - Coach Slater
Coach Chris Slater serves as the Director of Greater Michigan Prospects Hockey and has spent over 15 seasons developing and showcasing Michigan’s top high school and youth players. A graduate of Western Michigan University with a BA in Social Science, he has a strong background in human performance and is dedicated to helping student-athletes reach their goals. He is also a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Science Association, combining sports science with hockey development to maximize player potential. With 25+ years of coaching experience across collegiate, Junior A, AAA, and high school levels, Coach Slater is a Level 5 USA Hockey coach who lives by the philosophy: “One Day Better Every Day.”
2012 Team - Coach Curtin
Coach Scot Curtin, owner of Scot Curtin Skating & Skills, is a former Detroit Catholic Central State Champion and the 1997 Michigan Mr. Hockey recipient. Following his high school success, he played at Middlebury College, where he became a two-time NCAA D3 National Champion. Coach Curtin also brings valuable NCAA coaching experience and has dedicated numerous years to developing hockey players of all ages, sharing his expertise and passion for the game.
2013 Team - Coach Bond
Coach Jeff Bond is a long time Michigan AAA coach. A former NCAA D1 player at Western Michigan University, Coach Bond brings over 25 years of experience working with top AAA organizations throughout Michigan. He has also spent numerous years coaching at the Jr. A level, further honing his skills and knowledge of the game. Coach Bond enjoys teaching hockey fundamentals and theories to Greater Michigan Prospect players of all ages, fostering both their technical abilities and passion for the sport.
2014 Coach - Coach Miller
Coach Kip Miller was born in Lansing, Michigan, and played college hockey for the Michigan State University Spartans. During his college career he registered 116 goals, 145 assists and 261 points, leading the CCHA in scoring for two consecutive seasons. Miller was awarded the Hobey Baker Memorial Award in 1990, the first Spartan to receive the honor. Miller's cousin, goaltender Ryan Miller, was the second Spartan to win the Hobey Baker Award in 2001. In all, ten members of Miller's family (including his brothers Kevin and Kelly) have played college hockey for Michigan State. Kip's other cousin and Ryan Miller's brother is Drew Miller who played for the Detroit Red Wings. During his twelve-year NHL career, Miller played for the Nordiques, Minnesota North Stars, San Jose Sharks, New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Washington Capitals.
2015 Coach - Coach Vail
Chris Vail is a former professional and NCAA Division I hockey player known for his leadership, work ethic, and competitive drive. A four-year standout at Wayne State University, he played a key role in three conference championships and the program’s only NCAA Frozen Four appearance. Prior to college, he developed with the Vernon Vipers (BCHL) and starred at Lawrence Academy, earning First Team All–New England honors. Chris built a reputation for performing in high-pressure moments and setting a high standard both on and off the ice.

We are currently seeking applicants to coach a Greater Michigan Prospect summer tournament team. Ideal candidates have a strong hockey background, a passion for developing highly skilled players, and a deep love for the game. Coaches should be committed to creating a competitive, positive environment while helping athletes grow and succeed. If you’re driven and ready to lead at a high level, we encourage you to apply.

What is a summer tournament team?
A summer tournament team is a select group of players who come together to compete in off-season tournaments, focusing on development, exposure, and high-level competition.
What are the costs?
It is $300 per tournament. Plus $50 for a reversable team jersey.
Where do we stay?
These tournaments are "Stay to Play". We will send out the link to reserve the hotel rooms 3-4 weeks before the tournament.
What is the commitment level?
Players do not have to commit to all three tournaments. However, during the selection process, availability and commitment will be taken into account.
How much ice time should your player expect?
We will follow a policy where it is essentially equal, except for special teams, playoff, and the last 5 minutes of a game.
Is this good for player development?
Yes, it provides additional ice time, exposure to different coaching styles, and the chance to compete against top-level players.
How do I apply or get selected?
Players typically apply online or attend a tryout/evaluation camp where teams are formed based on skill and fit.
Are practices included?
We will try to include a team practice or training session to build chemistry and prepare for tournament.

Join Greater Michigan Prospects for the highly competitive Chicago Summer Sizzler Ice Hockey Tournament, taking place June 19–21 in Chicago.
This premier summer event attracts top-tier talent from across the country, providing players with an excellent opportunity to compete at a high level, gain exposure, and continue their development during the offseason. As part of Greater Michigan Prospects, players will be placed in a structured, competitive environment led by experienced coaches focused on skill development, teamwork, and game performance.
ANN ARBOR FIRECRACKER SHOOTOUT
Join Greater Michigan Prospects for an exciting weekend of competitive hockey at the Ann Arbor Shootout Ice Hockey Tournament, taking place July 10–12 in Ann Arbor.
This tournament brings together top talent from across the region, offering players the opportunity to compete at a high level, showcase their skills, and develop their game in a fast-paced, team-focused environment. As part of Greater Michigan Prospects, athletes will benefit from strong coaching, structured systems, and a commitment to player development both on and off the ice.
TCS Big Red Lake Cup 2026
Join Greater Michigan Prospects for the TCS Holland Michigan Cup 2026, an exciting and competitive tournament held in Holland. That runs July 17 - 19.
Players can expect multiple games, high-energy competition, and a positive, competitive atmosphere throughout the tournament. This is a great opportunity to challenge yourself against quality opponents, build chemistry with teammates, and represent a respected program on the ice.
